Westland High School is hosting the 15U brackets, along with a few other games at the 16U level, throughout the day Saturday. Nine players have caught our eye in the early time slots. Here’s your mid-day check-in on the action from some of Ohio’s most intriguing class of 2027 prospects.
(Players are listed in no particular order.)
Will Sensabaugh
HEIGHT 5'0"
POS N/A
CLASS 2027
State: Ohio
School: Spencerville
NW Ohio played a game with very few turnovers and mistakes. Their point guard, Sensabaugh, sets the tone as a strong decision-maker leading the offense. He can really shoot it. Confident ball-handler. He showed the ability to get around defenders off the drive but was mostly content facilitating the offensive sets.
Brady Michaels
HEIGHT 6'2"
POS PF
CLASS 2027
Brady Michaels
School: Dublin Scioto
Club: Midwest Pumas 2027 Loomis
At about 6’2”, Michaels showed shades of a stretch-forward game. He operated a lot at the top of the key, surveying the floor and attempting several three-pointers. Michaels also scored downhill off a hand-off. Defensively, he contested shots without fouling and competed for rebounds in traffic.
Drew Hughes
HEIGHT 6'2"
POS SF
CLASS 2027
Drew Hughes
School: Marysville
Club: Midwest Pumas 2027 Loomis
The most intriguing prospect on the floor from a physical traits standpoint, Hughes had several impressive finishes at the rim. Back-cutting and getting out in transition, his combination of length and athleticism was too much to handle around the rim. He will be fun to follow as he continues to round out his game.
Brady Basinger
HEIGHT 6'0"
POS N/A
CLASS 2027
State: Ohio
School: Columbus Grove
Basinger is a big combo forward with a lot of strength at the 15U level. He used his size to charge the basket off the dribble and finish physically. Doesn’t lack mobility in any sense, even though he played around the rim mostly.
Keaten Welch
HEIGHT 5'9"
POS N/A
CLASS 2027
State: Ohio
School: Van Wert
Scorer. Welch adds a true scoring element to this NW Ohio squad, which puts pressure on the defense whenever he has the rock. Shoots the ball extremely well and is very comfortable in the mid-range. The defense had absolutely no answers for him.
Dante Kimble Ill
HEIGHT 6'5"
POS SG
CLASS 2027
State: Ohio
School: Trinity
Club: Role Model Basketball
G Mode forced a fast pace all game and Kimble was the catalyst of that as their 5-man near the rim. His length and activity were disruptive defensively. Once he collected the ball, he pushed in transition, sometimes off the catch, but mostly with quick outlets passes. Offensively, Kimble is always in attack mode. He liked every match he saw facing the rim, never letting the defense off the hook.
Highlights
AJ Mcguinea
HEIGHT 6'3"
POS PG
CLASS 2027
State: Ohio
School: Trinity
A lengthy guard with very impressive size at the 15U level, McGuinea was simply on another level athletically. The lefty uses long strides when attacking the rim, converting on several euro steps. McGuinea also broke a few double teams handling the basketball, which speaks to his skill-set as a 6’3″ guard. Displayed some quick twitch as a help-side defender. Again, he was on another level.
Highlights
Chayce Brantley
HEIGHT 6'2"
POS PG
CLASS 2027
State: Ohio
School: Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy
Brantley brings a change of pace to an otherwise full-speed attack for G Mode. He’s more deliberate with the basketball than his teammates, thriving when they get into the half court, where he can capitalize on his blend of size and skill. Yet another big wing for this team, he put his spin move to use when attacking the basket.
Highlights
Rylan Slavens
HEIGHT 5'11"
POS CG
CLASS 2027
State: Ohio
School: Dayton Christian
Slavens is a jittery point guard. Everything he did was aggressive. Hunts shots and can knock it down from outside. He played well in an up-and-down tempo, adding some throw-ahead assists for easy buckets. Quick. Confident.
