It’s Girl Scout cookie time! My daughter has so much fun selling cookies each year. Right now I have a dining table covered in boxes of cookies all set out in piles to be delivered. Lots and lots of yummy cookies. There might be more than a few boxes with our name on them.

Quite a few boxes actually. I didn’t realize that I had ordered that many cookies. As in I spent over $80 on Girl Scout cookies this year. All the classics… I’m talking the Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies, the Samoas and so many others!

Which Girl Scout Cookies are Classic?

The classic Girl Scout cookies are the ones that have indeed stood the test of time and have been around since the 1970’s. These cookies are well known, look pretty much the same as the day they were first launched and are oh so delicious. The classics are ultimately the fan favorites when it comes to the cookies that are ordered each year. It’s not surprising that the green box of cookies is the most popular and always takes the cake (or in this case cookie) on the order form.

Thin Mints – The ones in the green box. Introduced in 1974, these mint-flavored chocolate cookies The perfect combination of dark chocolate and mint that’s covered in a hard chocolate ganache.

Samoas – Also introduced in 1974, this classic cookie is indeed a fan favorite. Cookie crunch, caramel, toasted coconut and chocolate drizzle are delectable on this round cookie with a hole in the center.

Trefoils – Here’s another original that came out from the very beginning of 1974. A delicious shortbread cookie that

Do-Si-Dos – This crunchy oatmeal sandwich cookie earn its spot as an original in 1974. That thin layer of peanut butter filling is the perfect addition.

Tagalongs – The only classic that wasn’t introduced in 1974! This one came out in 1976. Peanut butter and chocolate. Need I say more? There is of course also a cookie crunch at the very bottom.

How to buy girl Scout cookies?

You can find where to buy your favorite Girl Scout cookies from a local troop by typing in your zip code HERE. However, you can also find a cookie sale happening in front of a grocery store near you all weekend long. Places like Walgreens and Walmart are prime locations for finding a cookie booth set up out front.

Ingredients for making this Girl Scout Cookie Thin Mint dessert recipe:

13 oz. jar or 2 (7 oz) Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallow Creme

8 oz brick full-fat cream cheese

1/2 cup vanilla cake mix

12 Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies plus a few for garnish

1/4 cup mint M&M’s

Green food coloring (optional)

Peppermint extract if you want a more minty flavor (optional)

Directions for making this Girl Scout Cookie Thin Mint Dessert Recipe:
1. Mix the marshmallow cream and cream cheese with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy – about 3 minutes.
2. Add the cake mix and mix for an additional 30 seconds.

3. If you would like to tint the dip green, add a drop or two of green food coloring. Use the electric mixer to fully incorporate the color through out the dip – about 1 minute on medium speed.

4. Chill for 30 minutes.

5. Cut the Thin Mint cookies into small pieces or use a food processor to lightly break them up.

6. Chop the mint M&M’s into smaller pieces. You can place them in a Ziploc bag and roll them with a rolling pin to break them up.

7. Once the dip is chilled, fold in the chopped cookie and candy pieces.

8. Garnish with additional whole cookies and candy pieces.

9. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve; store in an airtight container.

10. Serve with fresh fruit, graham crackers, nilla wafers and pretzels.
